Cheers! Oberon Day Is BACK With Michigan's Classic Summer Ale

Summer is almost here, and for Michiganders, it’d marked by a beloved staple: Oberon Day.

Bell’s Brewery, the family-owned brewing company that launched from “a quest for better beer,” announced that its seasonal ale is making a comeback on March 22.

On Monday (March 15), Bell’s Brewery noted the one-week countdown to Oberon Day.

If you’re new to Michigan (or you’re just need a refresher after a long year), here’s what you should know about the citrusy beer, via the Comstock-based brewery:

“Oberon is a wheat ale fermented with our signature house ale yeast, mixing a spicy hop character with mildly fruity aromas. The addition of wheat malt lends a smooth mouthfeel, making it a classic summer beer. Made with only 4 ingredients, and without the use of any spices or fruit, Oberon is the color and scent of sunny afternoon.”

The long-awaited, unofficial holiday among Michiganders is especially refreshing after Bell’s Brewery had to cancel the 2020 Oberon Day celebration because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Detroit Free Press noted in a story Tuesday morning (March 16). Though this year’s Oberon Day will be marked with COVID-19 guidelines, it will still allow local beer lovers to celebrate the seasonal release at Eccentric Cafe and General Store (plus a virtual option, because, you know, pandemic things).

Local retailers should begin to release Oberon as early as Monday, according to the Free Press. It’ll be available through September.
