Sacramento County advanced to the red tier on California's Blueprint for a Safer Economy this week. Under the red tier, restrictions for restaurants and other businesses were loosened as of Wednesday, March 17.
With restrictions easing up, Sacramento's Tower Theatre announced they will be reopening on Friday, March 19.
The theatre will also be debuting a new name, reports CBS13.
The landmark will now be officially known as The Tower Theatre by Angelika to reflect a new affiliation.
The Tower Theatre took to their Facebook to explain the new name and announce the official reopening.
"We all had an identity crisis during quarantine, right?" they wrote. "We're excitied to join the Angelika Film Center family, and bring you their high standard of best-in-class arthouse, independent and international film."
Tower Theatre has spent most of the COVID-19 pandemic closed. While they did reopen for limited capacity in October 2020, they were forced to close down once statewide restrictions went into place during California's spike in cases during the winter.
Under the red tier, movie theaters in California are allowed to reopen at 25% capacity with face masks and social distancing.
The official Tower Theatre by Angelika website already has showtimes listed for Friday including Oscar-nominated films including Mank, The Father, Minar, and Nomad Land.
