Spring is almost here, and with that comes the chance of more rain. As states across the South prepare for storms, New Orleans has the potential for an "enhanced risk" of severe storms Wednesday (March 17). This risk means the city could be hit with heavy winds, large hail, and even isolated tornadoes, according to WWL-TV.
While much of the afternoon has been windy, severe weather has the potential to hit the Crescent City and Northshore Wednesday afternoon around sunset. A line of storms the could include tornados and large wind gusts up to 45 mph is expected between 7 and 11 p.m., the news outlet reports. The storms aren't expected to last too long, however, with much of the rain ending around midnight. WWL-TV meteorologists anticipate the quick-moving showers to bring in less than an inch of rain.
According to WDSU, the storms would be a result of a cold front meeting warm, humid air, which could lead to isolated tornadoes in the area. Warning signs of a tornado could include: large hail; a large, dark, low-lying cloud; or a loud sound similar to a train. If a tornado has been spotted in your area, take cover immediately.
