A pair of UPS drivers in rural Nevada saved a man's life after he ended up trapped underneath a jackknifed tractor-trailer back in February. Julie Jefferson and Spencer Mcvay were driving their big rig on the highway around 2 a.m. about three-and-half hours north of Las Vegas when they spotted an accident in front of them.

They got out and saw the truck's driver was pinned underneath a tire on the tractor-trailer with a severe injury to his leg.

"I think I kind of went into a little bit of shock," Mcvay told KTNV. "I mean, his leg was pretty bad. It was completely detached, and you know he was bleeding. He was lucid and able to talk and communicate."

The pair jumped into action and used a bystander's belt as a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. They stayed by his side for over 45 minutes in the 30-degree weather waiting for paramedics to arrive.

Jefferson did her best to keep him calm and stayed by his side for over 45 minutes while they waited for paramedics arrived.

"He said, 'Please don't leave me, I don't want to die," she recalled. "All I could say to him was 'I'm not going anywhere, we're gonna be right here the whole time.'"

While the man did survive, surgeons were unable to save his leg. He is now recovering with his family and is in good spirits.

"We are all truck drivers no matter what company we work for, and we stick together," Jefferson told KLAS. "I am glad we were there at the time so that, you know, he could feel more comfortable while waiting for the EMTs."
