Deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department disabled a live pipe bomb outside of an elementary school in South Sacramento, reports CBS13.
Classes at the school were canceled for the day and sheriff's department K-9s were searching the area for other threats.
On Friday morning (March 19) a school staff member found a "suspicious device."
Police then blocked off the area around Ethel I. Baker Elementary School in the 5700 block of Laurine Way, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.
The department took to Twitter to tell residents to avoid the area.
CBS13 reports a similar incident happened at the same location when police found a live pipe bomb and zip gun on March 2.
“It does appear that it was very similar to the last one that was here approximately three weeks ago,” said Sacramento County Sheriff’s Dept. Sgt. Kionna Rowe.
However, it is currently unknown if the two incidents were connected or if a suspect was caught in the March 2 incident.
By 11:38 A.M. on Friday, the sheriff's department tweeted an update on the situation saying "Our Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team disabled the device and rendered it safe. No additional devices were located."
