Authorities in Clearwater, Florida, are livid after a TikTok video showing spring breakers freeing a handcuffed man from a police cruiser went viral. On Wednesday (March 17), the police responded to a disturbance call at the beach and arrested four people as they attempted to get the crowd to disperse.

One of those taken into custody was 18-year-old Dominic Glass. He was put in the back of a squad car but managed to escape after somebody in the crowd opened the door. He tried to run to freedom as the crowd cheered him on, but he was quickly apprehended and put back into the police cruiser.

He is facing charges of charges for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and escape.

The next day, officers identified the teen who opened the door as Adam Asad, 18, and took him into custody. According to the Tampa Bay Times, Asad was busted after bragging on another video that he was the one who freed Glass. He is facing charges of aiding escape and resisting arrest without violence.

A video of the incident was shared on TikTok and quickly went viral, amassing over 2.2. million views. That upset Clearwater Police Department spokesman Rob Shaw, who told WFLA that people flouting the law is not a laughing matter.

“Everybody thinks it’s funny, everybody thinks it’s a joke. This is not a joke,” Shaw said. “I mean, these are unruly people out there behaving in inappropriate ways on the beach.”

“It’s not a joke to us, it’s not a laughing matter. It’s not about page clicks and page views and social media,” he added. “This is about people violating the law and then flouting it.”
