Governor Gavin Newsom announced all Californians could soon be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine.
Eligibility would expand by the end of April if the state receives the anticipated increase in doses, reports CBS8.
"Supply will exponentially increase, so within a few weeks these issues will substantively be addressed," said Newsom. "Everywhere in this state, people are demanding more vaccines and our only constraint is manufactured supply."
The exact date of an increased supply is currently unknown but the state is expecting increased shipments of Johnson & Johnson's single-shot vaccine after President Joe Biden increased manufacturing with the Defense Production Act.
President Biden also announced he would direct all states to make Americans 16 years and older eligible for the vaccine by May 1.
On Friday, March 12, California met its goal of administering 2 million COVID-19 vaccine doses in over 400 vulnerable ZIP codes.
As the state races to vaccinate more residents, California has been slowly reopening and loosening restrictions.
Most California counties are out of the purple tier and entered the less-restrictive red tier as of last week.
Restaurants, breweries, and other businesses have been allowed to resume indoor operations at limited capacities. Movie theaters have also reopened with limited capacities and social distancing guidelines.
