Like college students on spring break, orcas, aka "killer whales" were spotted swimming in the Gulf of Mexico last week.

A pod of about 100 orcas swam along side a fishing boat about 140 miles south of Galveston. Boat captain Matt Smith captured the rare moment on camera.

"I was pumped. As soon as we saw them I knew exactly what they were. That definitely takes the cake on the coolest thing we have seen," Smith told the Houston Chronicle.

Smith said interest in his company Galveston Party Boats has skyrocketed since video of the killer whales has gone viral. People want to book a boat ride in the hope of seeing the killer whales up close, but the chances of this happening again are slim to none.

Orcas are one the top marine predators and can be found in every ocean in the world, according to NOAA. However, only about 500 killer whales live in the Gulf of Mexico.

They are rarely seen because they the live in the Gulf's deepest waters where they can feed on tuna and dolphins, according to the National Wildlife Federation.

The most recent sightings of killer whales in the Gulf was in 2009.
