Police Investigating Deadly Shooting At East Charlotte Gas Station

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting at a local gas station in connection to an investigation by U.S. Marshals. According to WCNC, as of 1:30 p.m., there continues to be a large police presence near the Plaza Midwood neighborhood of Charlotte.
The activity centers around the U.S. Marshals Service's investigation at a Citgo gas station near The Plaza and Parkwood Avenue on Tuesday morning (March 23). According to WSOC, the federal officers were attempting to serve a warrant and arrest someone for a violent felony charge when a shooting occurred. The news outlet reports that one person was killed. Details about who fired a weapon have not been released.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and several other agencies responded to the scene, with CMPD taking the lead on the investigation, according to Police Chief Johnny Jennings. The department said it was not involved in the shooting.

Due to the ongoing investigation and extended police presence on the scene, the public has been asked to avoid the area around Parkwood Avenue and The Plaza, using Central Avenue as an alternate route, according to WSOC.
No additional details on the shooting, such as the identities of those involved, have been released.
