A woman has been arrested after allegedly setting fire to an apartment with children inside, reported KSNV News 3 LV.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, the woman allegedly started the fire at an east valley apartment with two children still inside it on Tuesday night. The apartment is located in the 4700 block of East Topaz Street, which is near Eastern and Tropicana avenues.

According to Lt. David Gordon with the Las Vegas Metro Police Department, officers responded to a trouble call at around 9:20 p.m.

When officers arrived, the woman refused to open the door.

When police officers heard the smoke alarm going off inside, the officers made entry.

The woman was taken into custody and the two children were removed from the burning apartment.

Gordon said, "Officers took the suspect into custody and evacuated her two children from the apartment that she set on fire."

There were no injuries as a result of the incident, and firefighters were able to put the fire out.

The apartments next to the one on fire were evacuated for safety.

According to assistant fire chief for the Clark County Fire Department, Dan Heenan, investigators determined the cost of the damage to be around $50,000.
