Authorities in Ohio have released new details about the murder of six-year-old James Hutchinson. Brittany Gosney, 29, is accused of murdering her son, and her boyfriend, James Hamilton, 42, is facing charges for helping her dump the boy's body in the Ohio River.
Prosecutors said that Gosney tried to abandon her three children in the Rush Run Wildlife area in Preble County on February 23. As she drove away, her son grabbed the handle of the car. She refused to stop driving, dragging his body along the ground. When she went back to get him, she realized he was dead.
She put his dead body in the backseat with her two other children and returned home. She then enlisted the help of Hamilton to dispose of the body. They kept the body in the house for up to 48 hours before getting rid of it. They reportedly tied a concrete block to the young boy's body and dumped his corpse into the Ohio River. His body has not yet been found.
Officials said that Gosney and Hamilton abused all three kids before she tried to abandon them. Court documents cited an incident in which they hog-tied all three children and stuffed cloth in their mouths, leaving them tied up for hours.
Gosney was charged with one count of murder, one count of involuntary manslaughter, one count of tampering with evidence, two counts of gross abuse of a corpse, three counts of kidnapping, three counts of abduction, and five counts of endangering children. Hamilton was charged with three counts of kidnapping, abduction, endangering children, tampering with evidence, and gross abuse of a corpse.
Gosney pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation.
