Gas Station Frustration

If you've filled up your gas tank recently, you may have noticed a major spike in gas prices.

Utah is seeing a huge price jump right now, and the state's fuel prices are far above the national average.

2 KUTV reported that the current average price for a gallon of gas in Utah is at $3.154, and it is going up every single day. A gallon of regular unleaded fuel last week in Utah cost around $2.979, and a month ago the price was around $2.384 per gallon.

According to AAA, the national average price is $2.882 per gallon.

AAA expects the national average to continue to rise for many reasons. The rise could happen as a "combination of rising crude prices, tightening gas supplies, and increased gas demand," 2 KUTV reported.

The Energy Information Administration explained that gas priced generally go up as the demand for gas increases.

With vaccines becoming increasingly available and the world getting steps closer to herd immunity, travel is expected to increase again, which would ultimately cause another bump in gas prices across the state.
