Local San Diego restaurants now have another opportunity to receive financial help during the coronavirus pandemic.
On Wednesday, March 31, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) announced they will be contributing $200,000 in share funds to a $1.25 million effort by utility companies to help small restaurants in eight different California counties.
From April 11 to April 18, restaurants with one location and 50 or fewer employees can apply to the California Restaurant Association Foundation for $2,000 grants. In addition, the businesses must also have seen revenue fall by at least 20% between 2019 and 2020.
Preference will be given to restaurants owned by women and people of color, according to CNS.
"Not only do these diverse, family-owned restaurants add to the cultural vibrancy of our neighborhoods, they are engines of the local economy," said Todd Cahill, SDG&E's director of customer care and a board member of the Association's San Diego County chapter. "Unfortunately, they are also among the businesses hardest hit by the pandemic. We hope these funds will help to accelerate their recovery and that of the industry as a whole."
The grants are intended to be used on payroll and expenses like hiring more staff. Those who receive grants will also get help improving their business, reports CNS.
Restaurants eligible for the grants must be located in San Diego, Alameda, Fresno, Kern, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Francisco or San Joaquin county.
