Genesis bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford says progressive rock's premiere hitmakers may wind up touring North America before being able to make good on their twice postponed reunion dates in the U.K. and Ireland.
The band announced 'The Last Domino?' tour in early-March of 2020, with the first dates scheduled to take place last fall. The coronavirus pandemic then prompted the trio to push the dates to this coming September and October.
In a recent Rockonteurs podcast interview, Rutherford suggested that new dates seem likely to happen before the rescheduled ones.
"American shows might be in November [on the East Coast]," Rutherford said. "They are confident, they want to do it."
The tour will be Genesis' first in 15 years. The band effectively retired in 2007 when frontman/drummer Phil Collins announced he was quitting due to complications from nerve damage, which drastically affected his ability to play the drums.
Phil resurrected his solo career in 2015 with his teenage son Nic Collins on drums. The success of the solo shows motivated the trio of Phil, Rutherford and keyboardist Tony Banks to explore another go-around with Genesis.
Nic is expected to join the group as its live drummer, while Phil has suggested his condition may allow him to play drums for "bits" of the live set.
