Rock guitar legend Ted Nugent revealed this week that he tested positive for COVID-19.
Nugent took to Facebook Live Monday to disclosed the concerning news about his health. After more than a year of denying the severity of the novel coronavirus, Nugent explained that he's been in bad shape for over a week with COVID-19 symptoms.
"I have had flu symptoms for the last ten days," he said. "And I just, I thought I was dying. Just a clusterf--k. ... I was officially tested positive for COVID-19 today...the Chinese s--t."
He added that he's suffering from a "stuffed up head," "body aches" and severe fatigue.
Nugent, 72, has not received the COVID-19 vaccine, saying that the "unknown" contents of the needle scare him more than the virus, which has been blamed for well over half a million deaths.
He has often referred to the pandemic as a hoax, accusing health officials of fudging the numbers as part of a worldwide conspiracy.
Nugent began the Monday Facebook Live by acknowledging that people close to him recommended he not deliver the news about his illness or his positive COVID test. He said he is now "homebound i.e. quarantined" after several days of barely being able to get out of bed.
The Motor City Madman and his wife appeared at an event in Naples, Florida, on April 12, at a restaurant and grocery store that is known for shunning mask mandates and other COVID-related protocols. In February, the owner of the establishment said "no one's dying" from COVID and urged people "to wake up" about what officials are telling them about the virus.
Earlier this month, Nugent announced via Facebook Live that his next tour had been canceled as a result of the pandemic. During the April 7 livestream, Nugent again cross-examined the facts of the pandemic, showing the extent of his confusion by asking "why weren't we shut down for COVID-1 through -18?"
COVID-19 is an abbreviation for "coronavirus disease 2019."
In a follow-up Monday, Nugent thanked fans for their support following his news.
"Thousands of people, 'Ted we're praying for you... the most important thing is for you to take care of yourself,'" he said of the encouraging messages he received. "To everybody that cares about the old guitar player's health — thank you, thank you, thank you. Your empathy and support, it's so fulfilling."
