Colorado's largest theme park, Elitch Gardens in Denver, is opening its doors to the general public on Saturday, May 1. COVID-19 restrictions and limitations will be in place.

The park will open up at almost half of its regular capacity, park officials announced. Before the pandemic, Elitch Gardens had a capacity of around 16,000 people per day, according to The Know.

A trial run happened last week, with the park opening only for season pass-holders.

On Tuesday, April 17, the park received approval from the city and county of Denver to increase its maximum capacity for the theme and water park, bringing it to a 43% overall capacity.

“We are thankful for the approval to host and entertain more guests at one time than was previously OK’d, and that reservations to visit the park are no longer required,” said the park's general manager David Dorman in a press statement. “We are committed to making sure we keep all of our guests safe while they enjoy the great outdoors here at the park.”

All park guests and employees will be required to wear face coverings if they are over the age of 2 and are not actively eating or drinking.
