A Denver nonprofit is providing the city's unhoused population with free showers, bathrooms, and laundry services.

Shower For All believes "the lack of shower/laundry facilities for people in need is a health crisis," and they are committed to alleviating people's struggles in the Denver community.

"It doesn’t matter what the circumstances are, people still deserve the opportunity to have access to basic resources,” Jennifer Kloeppel, the co-founder of Showers for All, told Rocky Mountain PBS.

The organization offers around 60 showers and 60 loads of laundry every day through their trailer. Kleoppel says it costs about $8,000 per month to run the trailer and pay for the water and electricity it uses from the building they set up in front of.

The trailer has two bathrooms with showers and two washer and dryer units. People usually spend around 20 minutes in the shower but there are no time limits, as the organization doesn't want to rush anyone.

Showers for All operates four days a week. While the pandemic has curbed their plans for expansion, they are working on moving the trailer to different areas of Denver and eventually operating seven days a week.

“Hygiene is a basic human right,” said Kloeppel. “For me, it’s about showing up and loving people well. And that’s something that I hope to pass on to people. And this community has shown me over and over again how well they care for each other, and then how well they care for spaces that are provided to them.”
