Memorial Day is expected to be a huge rebound for travel throughout the country.
More than 37 million Americans are expected to travel at least 50 miles from home from May 27 through May 31 AAA Travel revealed in a news release on Tuesday, May 11.
Last year, the country saw a record low on travel with only 23 million people traveling during the COVID-19 pandemic.
But this year, AAA Travel has noted a surge in online traffic and bookings for hotels and car rentals as we head towards Memorial Day weekend and the summer season.
“As more people get the COVID-19 vaccine and consumer confidence grows, Americans are demonstrating a strong desire to travel this Memorial Day,” said Paula Twidale, senior vice president, AAA Travel. “This pent-up demand will result in a significant increase in Memorial Day travel, which is a strong indicator for summer, though we must all remember to continue taking important safety precautions.”
According to AAA Travel, Denver is one of the top destinations for road trips this Memorial Day weekend.
People are also expected to make their way to another Colorado destination.
AAA saw a rise in travel bookings to Colorado Springs as well as Orlando, Las Vegas, Honolulu, and Anchorage.
