Queen guitarist Brian May was back in the hospital this week to undergo what he described as a quick outpatient procedure on his left eye.

May did not specify what his ailment was, but he said that the "little bit of eye surgery" ought to "really improve my focus — AND my stereoscopic vision."

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and astrophysicist provided updates on his progress Thursday in a series of Instagram posts, before and afterwards, noting that he's infinitely fascinated by modern medicine.

He was conscious throughout the 20-minute procedure and made a point to thank his doctor and anesthesiologist for their expertise. May departed the hospital in an eye patch, which he said would remain until the following morning.

Friday, the guitarist shared another updated, thanking followers for flooding his inbox with well-wishes.

He added that he woke up in "good shape" and the after-effects of the procedure are clearing up. He went on to liken the procedure to a conventional cataract operation "although I don't have a cataract. Basically, they replaced the lens here because my vision was so out. I had a Lasik operation years ago but it drifted the wrong way since then. I could focus on nothing on the left eye. Now, already, I can see pretty much perfect to infinity, although through a slight haze. So I'm great. Thank you so much for caring."

The eye procedure comes about a year after May was hospitalized twice in the same month with a gardening injury and then a heart attack. Some months later in September 2020, May was back in the hospital after his new heart medication nearly killed him with a stomach hemorrhage.

While Queen postponed most of its 2020 tour dates due to the pandemic, drummer Roger Taylor said last summer that the band would probably have had to cancel shows anyway, on account of May's gauntlet of health issues.

Get well soon, Brian!
