Improvements to McKinley Park are nearly finished, reports Sacramento City Express.
Residents will soon be able to enjoy upgraded jogging paths, picnic areas, BBQ pits, benches, shade structures, new restrooms, landscaping, and 60 new trees.
In addition to those enhancements, City Utilities crews also finished work on the McKinley Water Vault, a storage tank that will reduce flooding of nearby streets during storms.
“Sacramento has what’s called a ‘combined sewer system,'” James Yorita, McKinley Water Vault project manager told Sacramento City Express. “That means many of our storm drains carry away rainwater as well as sewage. If the pipes are full during heavy rains, that combined water can flow back onto City streets, something that the vault will help reduce.”
City staff expects the improvements to the park will be done by the end of this summer.
In the meantime, residents can view the coming improvements through virtual renderings.
“We worked with the Youth, Parks & Community Enrichment department and the community to decide what kinds of park enhancements would be in place after the project finished,” said Yorita. “People said they wanted jogging path enhancements, more trees, bathrooms and a multi-purpose field that could be used for sports, concerts in the park and other events.”
