A homeowner in Sacramento told CBS13 that a tenant destroyed her property and squatted for months.
Sacramento Code Enforcement confirmed the landlord's claims saying the house she owned saw fire damage and had no power when the tenant finally saw the eviction notice.
The homeowner hopes to file a restraining order to make sure the tenant stays away from the property for good.
One neighbor has been a witness to the destruction for the past year.
“The stuff started showing up, then the cops started showing up. There were people in and out of there all the time,” Corey Gamble told CBS13.
The owner of the home is Katherine Wylie who currently lives in Los Angeles. She says the tenant turned her house into a meth lab and motel that had a check-in and registry.
According to CBS13, the tenant left behind a chalkboard that read "Leasing house."
Wylie said despite the trouble the tenant caused, California's eviction moratorium kept her from kicking him out during the pandemic.
Wylie said once the fire destroyed the garage, the place was no longer considered livable.
After the tenant was evicted, he was able to sneak back into the home while it was under construction.
Wylie estimated the tenant racked up $30,000 in damages to the home since March of 2020.
