On Monday, June 28, the city of Seattle reached its hottest day on record. By the evening, the temperature in the city had reached 108 degrees.
The temperature also caused the city to break another record. For the first time ever, Seattle reached triple-digit temperatures three days in a row, reports CBS News.
Amid the record-breaking heat, crews continue to battle brushfires throughout the Pacific Northwest and the heat is putting a strain on the region's power grid.
Less than half of the city's residents have air conditioning, according to U.S. Census data, leaving people to find breaks from the heat outside of their homes.
"Everything's sold out. Like today, we couldn't even get any ice. Everything is completely gone," one Seattle resident Monika Williams told CBS News.
"Part of the reason I moved here was… to come in the summer to have relief from Arizona heat," said another resident Stanlie James. "And I seem to have brought it with me. So I'm not real thrilled."
The conditions have caused several restaurants throughout the city to shut down and public pools to close.
As a last-ditch effort to beat the heat, many residents have booked hotel rooms, and hotels throughout the city are sold out.
