Three people have died in Washington lakes and rivers while trying to cool off during the record-breaking heatwave, reports the Associated Press.

One death occurred on Sunday morning (June 27). According to fire officials, one man died after being pulled from Lake Washington in Kirkland.

Firefighters were called to O.O. Denny Park when someone witnessed a man struggling in the water, said Kirkland Fire Department battalion chief Greg Picinich.

The man was pulled from the water and fire department personnel tried to resuscitate him for around 30 minutes but were unsuccessful.

The identity of the man was not released at the time.

Another man drowned at Angle Lake in SeaTac, according to King County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Tim Meyer.

On Sunday after 3:00 P.M., the man, who was in his 40s, died at Angle Lake after King County sheriff's deputies were unable to successfully revive him.

Then on Monday, June 28, search and rescue officials recovered the body of a 58-year-old woman who went missing during a swim in the Stillaguamish River in Snohomish County, according to a report by The Seattle Times. The woman's name has not yet been released.

According to AP, people die in local lakes and rivers as temperatures rise every summer. Cold waters can shock experienced and inexperienced swimmers alike and lead to drownings.
