A new study called the ACSM American Fitness Index ranked how active American cities were from 2020-2021.

The goal of the index is "to increase awareness of how cities are performing across a range of health and community measures to spark meaningful discussion and advance action to make their residents stronger, fitter, and healthier."

So where does Denver rank on the index?

According to the Fitness Index, Denver is the 4th-fittest city in the U.S.

Based on the study's insights, over 82% of residents in Denver exercised within the last 30 days.

The study also looked into the top 10 cities getting more than 7 hours of sleep, where another Colorado city made the cut.

Aurora was ranked No. 7 with 70% of its population getting 7+ hours of sleep.

Denver was also featured in the overall Personal Health Rank & Score coming in at No. 2. Denver has lower obesity and stroke rates than the average U.S. city.

According to the study, the top 10 fittest cities in America are:

  1. Arlington, Va.
  2. Minneapolis, Minn.
  3. Seattle, Wash.
  4. Denver, Colo.
  5. Madison, Wis.
  6. Washington, D.C.
