A new project is looking to connect Sacramento's Broadway area and West Sacramento's South River Road reports FOX40.

The new route is planned to be a bridge over the Sacramento River and it's slowly becoming a reality.

The additional route would make it easier for residents who commute daily for work.

“It’s OK, but it’s hard,” Thomas Anderson, who drives to West Sacramento for work, told FOX40. “If they made an easier way to get over here a little quicker and take some time off my commute then that would be great!”

The Broadway Bridge Project would span the Sacramento River just south of Highway 50 and Business Loop 80 bridge. The bridge will connect South River Road on the west side of the river with Broadway on the east side.

“It is envisioned as a two-lane bridge, but with that, it’s a very wide structure to accommodate all modes of transportation,” said Zach Siviglia, president and CEO of Mark Thomas & Company. “Between transit uses, vehicle uses, walking and bicycling.”

City officials expect the project to be expensive and are still trying to figure out where funding will come from. They are also still working on securing the land for the bridge.

According to FOX40, construction won't begin until 2035.
