Two California content creators are grieving the death of their beloved dog Gizmo after hiring a sitter through Rover, an app that pairs dog owners with dog sitters.
Ashley Dingess and Nick Roa booked a sitter through the app while they took a trip to Disneyland over the weekend.
Ashley and Nick said the sitter called them just two hours into their day to tell them that their dog ran away. The sitter confessed that she was running errands and lost track of the dog, saying Gizmo jumped out of the car.
That story is suspicious to Ashley and Nick since Gizmo was a senior and had recently undergone surgery on a bum leg, meaning she couldn't run or jump up and down.
Gizmo was later found dead after being hit on the onramp of a nearby freeway. The owners were notified of the tragic incident by a Good Samaritan who called the number on Gizmo's collar.
They reached out to Rover to complain. The company was only able to offer them $500 to cover cremation costs. But for Ashley and Nick, this is about more than money.
Ashley shared that hundreds of people have reached out to them about similar experiences with dog sitters hired through the Rover app.
They hope by sharing their story they can raise awareness for Gizmo and warn other pet owners to be cautious while using the app.
