Two brothers were killed in a train accident in South Charlotte early Tuesday morning (August 3) while at a memorial for their other brother who killed in the same spot a week before.

According to WCNC, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers responded to a reported crash near at the intersection of East Hebron Street and South Boulevard, near the LYNX Blue Line, around 5 a.m. Tuesday. Pablo Tiquiram Us, 29, and Jose Tiquiram Us, 20, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the two men were conducting a memorial for their other brother Baltazar Tiquiram Us who was fatally struck by a light rail train on July 26. WCNC reports that the safety mechanisms for the CATS line were working properly, while CMPD said alcohol impairment could possibly be a contributing factor in the incident.

"It's a very tragic incident," said Police Sgt. Adam Jones. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families. I can't imagine losing your children, your siblings within a week to such tragic circumstances."

Operation Livesaver North Carolina works to reduce the number of train accidents and fatalities, which they say happens when people are distracted, per FOX 46.

"People always ask... 'how do you get hit by a train?' They're so loud, they make so much noise, they're so heavy, they blow their horn," said Margaret Cannell, executive director for Operation Lifesaver. "You can't always depend on hearing a train. They're much quieter until they get right up on you ... By the time they see you, it's too late."
