Some unique objects and photos helped investigators solve a series of crimes in Boulder County this week.

According to CBS4, investigators kept running into unicorn figurines and photos of unicorns while recovering stolen property and serving search warrants.

The discoveries helped them tie the crimes together and led them to three suspects.

According to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, the suspects had an "affection for unicorns" and left the clues as they stole cars and packages from homes around Boulder County.

Marie Roman (36), Adrian Quintana (44) were arrested on Thursday, August 5. Shane Phillips (21) was still at large as of Thursday, according to CBS4.

It's estimated that the three stole items that added up to $115,000. The crimes happened in September and continued through February in Boulder, Lyons, and Longmont.

"We can't speak to what their intent was, whether they left them as calling cards or whether we just happened to find them but they didn’t intend for us to find them," sheriff's spokeswoman Carrie Haverfeld said of the unicorn figurines, drawings, and books.

CBS4 reports that the suspects face a total of 53 criminal charges in Boulder County after stealing from what is believed to be 46 different locations.
