Say it ain't so.

On Thursday (August 10), Ashley Tisdale sat down for a chat with Entertainment Tonight and shared some news that is sure to devastate High School Musical fans everywhere. The 36-year-old actress told the outlet she will not revive her role as Sharpay Evans at any point in the future.

Though there are no plans to reunite the original cast of High School Musical at the moment, a spin-off series titled High School Musical: The Musical: The Series currently airing on Disney Plus. Since the franchise has stayed alive all these years, many fans hoped to see original cast members, such as Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens, and Zac Efron, return to the beloved HSM franchise at some point.

"I just feel like I wouldn't be able to really do that again and give it justice," Tisdale explained to ET. "You know what I'm saying? I think at that moment in time, I was very unaware of myself and my surroundings, and I feel like that's a big part of Sharpay. She is just not really aware, and so as I grew up and became more aware, I think that it's just something that it wouldn't be the same."

It's not only that she doesn't think she can bring the same energy to Sharpay these days, either. Tisdale also feels protective of the trilogy's legacy. "It's so good, and it's like, for me, I would hate to ruin something that is perfect for that moment, and yeah, I don't think I could go back to it," she shared.

Despite not reuniting with her castmates for a revival, Tisdale remains close with her onscreen HSM rival Hudgens. Back in May, Tisdale shared a sweet photo of Hudgens meeting her daughter Jupiter for the very first time. “Literally Jupiter opened her arms like hold me the minute she met Ness. It warmed my heart,m" she wrote at the time.
