A bear was found rummaging through cars in Estes Park, according to CBS4.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials announced on August 8 that a bear managed to get into eight different vehicles overnight. They reported that all of the vehicles were unlocked.
"While not all of the vehicles had food or attractants, some bears go from car to car just to see if they're unlocked, then hope to find food," CPW NE Region tweeted.
According to officers, the bear broke into the cars overnight on Saturday, August 8.
“Make it a routine to lock ALL your windows and doors for both your vehicle and home. This is for your safety and for the lives of these amazing and resourceful creatures,” said CPW.
Decide Outside has tips on keeping food in your car while camping:
- Ensure that all windows and doors are closed
- Use odor-proof plastic storage bags
- Keep all food out of sight
- Try out bear-safe containers
- Avoid foods with strong smells
- Don't overpack
- Keep your car's panic button nearby
- Check on your goods often
