Have you ever looked at a world record and asked yourself "why?"
There's plenty of strange Guinness World Records out there and and handful have either been broken by Oklahoma residents or in the Sooner state. Below are some of the most off-the-wall records set intentionally or accidentally in Oklahoma.
1. First Person Hit By Space Junk
Lottie Williams earned a place in history by being the first person on earth to ever be hit by space junk on January 22, 1997, at a park in Turley, Oklahoma. Williams was working out with friends that morning when she saw a bright light in the sky and then a 5-inch long piece of fiberglass bounced off her shoulder.
It ended up being part of a rocket launched in California a year earlier. Luckily for Williams, she wasn't hurt, but the rocket's 551 pound fuel tank ended up crashing near a farm in Texas.
2. Longest Hug
Benjamin Kannenberg and Benjamin Thompson spent 32 hours, 32 minutes, and 32 seconds hugging each other on October 17-18, 2005. The two Bens decided to break the record "while they were procrastinating during their freshman year ... at the University of Oklahoma," according to the Guinness website.
3. Largest Human Image Of A Lightning Bolt And Cloud
America's most famous meteorologist Al Roker broke two records in a state notorious for its severe weather. With the help of OU students, he created the largest human image of a lightning bolt with 280 people and the largest cloud with 490 people.

4. Tallest Dinosaur
Eons before Oklahoma was Oklahoma, the state was the home and eventually resting place for the world's tallest dinosaur. In 1994, researchers found near Oklahoma City the bones for a Sauroposeidon, which was 60 feet tall and weighed a massive 132,277 pounds. It's possible that larger beasts one roamed the earth but their remains haven't been found yet.
