Phoenix is officially the fastest-growing major city in the entire nation, reported Yahoo! News. The U.S. Census Bureau released official data that reflects the 2020 headcount.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Phoenix grew by 11.2 percent over the ten-year span from 2010 to 2020. This means that it grew faster than any of the country's other major cities.
According to the data, Phoenix surpassed Philadelphia and became the fifth-largest city in the nation.
The study showed that there was also a trend of the "fastest-growing municipalities being located just outside of a major population center." Phoenix suburb Buckeye grew faster than any other city with a population of over 50,000. It grew by 80 percent to 91,000 from 2010 to 2020.
According to the Census Bureau, the nation experienced slower growth rates on a county level. Marc Perry senior demographer in the bureau's Population Division said, "Metro areas are even more prominent this decades the locations of population growth amidst otherwise widespread population decline."
