WATCH: Bystander Jumps On Alligator's Back To Save Trainer From Attack

A bystander saved an animal trainer after she was attacked by an alligator during a child's birthday party in Utah. Lindsay Bull entered the enclosure of Darth Gator, an 8.5-foot long male alligator, to feed it. Darth Gator was acting aggressively, and Bull grabbed him under his lower jaw and tried to push him back.

The technique usually works to stop the aggressive behavior, but this time Darth Gator bit down on her hand.

"It was just a normal training routine, something that I've done a bunch of different times," Bull told KSTU. "But working with animals like this, you kind of accept that something can go wrong and probably will go wrong at some point, and that's what happened Saturday."

Darth Gator then pulled Bull into the water as she tried to roll with him to keep him from ripping off her hand.

"Being able to roll with him like that probably kept my hand there initially. If they get enough leverage, they can definitely just twist it right off," Bull explained.

Luckily, a man in attendance had experience with reptiles and rushed into the enclosure to help.

"If you can get on his back, go on his back," Bull told the man, identified as Donnie Wiseman.

Wiseman jumped on Darth Gator's back and helped subdue the alligator. After about a minute, Bull was able to free her hand and escape the enclosure. She was taken to the hospital and is recovering from her injuries. Other attendees at the party praised her for being so calm while her life was in danger.

"Everybody keeps saying 'you're so calm, you're so calm,' I guess I just think that in that situation I just maybe didn't have much of a choice," Bull said. "It's like, be calm and hopefully keep everything intact or, you know, if you freak out, there's just such a higher chance that something can go wrong."

Video of the rescue was shared on Facebook by Donnie's wife, Theresa.

"We didn't expect this kind of thing when we set out for a birthday party today! 😮I have the most awesome, brave husband ever," she wrote.
