A homeowner in aspen had a bear break into their home for the third time, reports KDVR.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) officers say the bear broke into the home for the third time since 2019 and for the second time in just one month.
The incident occurred on Monday, August 16. Jason Clay with CPW told KDVR a wildlife officer responded to the home around midnight.
According to the homeowner, it sounded like the bear was inside the home at around 9:30 P.M.
The bear broke through a locked window upstairs and got food in the kitchen before being startled by the homeowner's airhorn.
To escape, the bear broke out of another window in the basement.
According to KDVR, no injuries from the incident have been reported.
On July 24, the same home was broken into by another bear, which resulted in the bear being euthanized.
CPW says a bear also broke into the same home in August 2019 after going through dead-bolted French doors to get to the refrigerator. When the homeowners walked downstairs to investigate the noise, the bear ran out of the kitchen and left the house.
The home is on a hillside covered with serviceberries and oak brush. They also have a cherry apple tree on the driveway. CPW says the natural food sources in the area attract bears.
