A New Jersey woman was arrested after she allegedly used donations raised on GoFundMe to cover her personal expenses instead of paying for her husband's funeral.

49-year-old Patricia Clark created a GoFundMe page explaining that she and her husband were living off of disability benefits and that he did not have a life insurance policy.

"Please, if there's anybody out there that can make a donation to help with the expenses, I would greatly appreciate it. His children would also appreciate it," she wrote on GoFundMe.

Clark's family contacted authorities after they learned that she had never claimed her husband's body from the morgue. He died in April 2019.

The New Jersey State Police launched an investigation and learned the 28 people had donated to Clark's GoFundMe page. Over a two-month period, Clark raised $2,050 of her $3,000 goal.

Clark was indicted on a single charge of theft by failure to make disposition.
