A mysterious wallaby that was spotted multiple times in Pennsylvania was captured last week.
FOX 43 reports the wallaby was caught in Bethel Township, where it was initially spotted previously, and transported to a wildlife facility at an undisclosed location last Wednesday (August 18), according to Game Commission Southeast Region Information and Education Supervisor Dustin Stoner.
Last week, FOX 43 reported the mysterious marsupial was seen on multiple occasions in the area around Mount Zion, with residents sharing photos and videos on social media.
Stoner confirmed the Pennsylvania Game Commission received numerous reports of sightings, many of which were second- or third-hand accounts.
A game warden inspected the area on Tuesday (August 17), prior to the wallaby being captured.
The Game Commission said it was unknown whether the wallaby was released by someone or managed to escape on its own.
Pennsylvania residents need to fill out appropriate paperwork with the Game Commission in order to own a kangaroo, wallaby, or other exotic wildlife animal.
Stoner issued a warning for all residents to avoid the animal prior to it being captured as kangaroos and wallabies can become scared or aggressive if approached.
In a similar event, all residents are advised to keep their distance and contract the Game Commission's Southeast Regional office at (610)-926-3136 to report where and when the animal was spotted.
Pennsylvania Trooper David Beohm, a public information officer, confirmed Pennsylvania State Police didn't receive any calls regarding the wallaby but were aware of the incident through social media posts.
