On Wednesday (August 25), Lauren Alaina, Devin Dawson, and Hardy teamed up to honor songwriter Hillary Lindsey at the 14th Annual Academy of Country Music Honors at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. The trio performed their hit song 'One Beer,' which was co-written by Lindsey.

Ahead of the ACM Awards, Dawson opened up about the popular song, which he admitted he believed wouldn't be as successful as it was. “I almost knew that it wasn’t gonna be a single," he recalled "I guess I just never figured it would react in the way it did.”

The song he wrote with Lindsey took off, of course, which he called a "pleasant surprise." As Alaina mentioned in her introduction to the performance, Lindsey knows how to write a song the fans will love. “It's all about what the fans want,” Dawson added. “It’s up to the people to decide.”

While the trio was thrilled to be honoring their close friend and collaborator, Dawson also said the performance feels like “making up for lost time" as 'One Beer' gained popularity amid the pandemic.

Alaina, Dawson, and Hardy weren't the only ones to pay tribute to Lindsey, either. In a video celebrating the prolific songwriter's accomplishments—she was named songwriter of the year in both 2019 and 2020—Carrie Underwood opened up her creative partnership with Lindsey. Eleven of Lindsey's number one songs were written for Underwood, including 'Jesus Take the Wheel,' 'Last Name,' and 'Two Black Cadillacs.' "She can write it all, she's one of the greats," Underwood raved.
