Tucson is a pretty cool place to live. The city is full with opportunities for outdoor recreation and is always filled with plenty of sunshine.

The city even seems to have its very own language that people outside Tucson just don't understand.

Here are 5 words and phrases that only Tucson residents understand:

1. Chimi

This is just the shortened Tucson word for chimichangas, which are delicious fried burritos.

2. Monsoon

Believe it or not, not everyone has experienced a monsoon season so the word takes on a whole new meaning in Tucson.

3. Snowbird

This word describes all of the out-of-towners that come to the city for a sunny escape. Snowbirds typically flock here to get away from their snow-filled winters.

4. Sonoran Dog

These hot dogs are wrapped in bacon with special toppings and buns. The best ones come from carts on the side of the road. Unfortunately not everyone in the country is lucky enough to get to try them.

5. Wash

No, I'm not talking about the verb used to indicate cleaning or rinsing. Wash in Tucson takes on a new meaning, referring to the dry bed of a river. These generally run across roads and behind homes. When it rains, the washes become temporary rivers.
