The Denver Animal Shelter is offering name-your-price adoptions to help clear the overcrowded shelter, reports the Denver Gazette.
Animal shelters across the nation are experiencing a surge of incoming pets as many Americans return to work in offices.
The name-your-price event will go on through August 30 and applies to all adult dogs and cats. According to the shelter, they usually cost anywhere from $65 to $150 to adopt.
The annual "Clear the Shelters" event is a pet adoption campaign in which over 1,000 shelters and rescue organizations are participating this year, reports the Gazette.
The Humane Society of Weld County is also participating in the event and offering 50% off adoptions through September 11.
The Denver Animal Shelter is not currently at full capacity, but the Gazette reports that it had 75 animals up for adoption as of Monday, August 23.
The shelter will also be accepting donations through Great Good Charities throughout the week.
More than 1,100 pets have been adopted through the Denver Animal Shelter this year, according to the shelter. And more than 500,000 pets have been adopted nationally during "Clear the Shelters" event since it started in 2015, reports the Gazette.
