Shane Kimbrough had the perfect view to admire some of his favorite Atlanta landmarks.
The NASA Astronaut shared International Space Station photos on Monday (August 30), taking a look at his Georgia hometown from space. Kimbrough challenged others to see whether they could pinpoint “some of my favorite places” in Atlanta from the images, including Georgia Tech, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, The Varsity, Georgia State University, the Coca-Cola Museum, State Farm Arena, Piedmont Park, Ponce City Market and Dobbins Air Reserve Base.
So far, fellow Georgians have responded to Kimbrough’s tweet as they search for familiar sights around the city. Georgia Tech and Ponce City Market even replied to Kimbrough; Ponce City Market said it’s “looking pretty good from the @Space_Station!”
NASA selected Kimbrough in 2004, and he completed his first spaceflight in 2008 on STS-126. That’s when he “spent almost 16 days on the mission to expand the crew living quarters to accommodate a six-member crew. During the mission, he performed two spacewalks,” his NASA bio reads. The Georgia Institute of Technology grad has also served as a Flight Simulation Engineer (FSE) on the Shuttle Training Aircraft (STA), according to NASA. He “has now logged a total of 189 days in space.”
