'She Told Me I Was Dreaming' Michigan Man Wins $25,000 A Year For Life

A Michigan man is the lucky winner of $25,000 a year for life after playing the Michigan Lottery's Lucky For Life game.

According to a news release from the Official Michigan Lottery, Matt Swindall won big after matching all five white ball numbers drawn on August 19. The five winning numbers were 11, 12, 16, 38, and 48.

Swindall is the eighth Michigan Lottery player to win a lifetime prize from the Lucky For Life game.

"I got up early to get ready to head up north for a friend's weekend trip," Swindall told Michigan Lottery. "I checked my email right when I got up and had one from the Lottery that was different than anything I had ever gotten. I logged in to my account and really didn't believe what I was seeing. I rubbed my eyes over and over, but the screen kept showing the same thing. I had won $25,000 a year for life."

When he realized he had won, he woke up his wife to tell her the big news, but she didn't quite believe him.

"I woke my wife up and told her we'd hit the Lottery. Of course, she didn't believe me, so I showed her my phone. She told me I was dreaming and went back to sleep! When I called to make the appointment to claim my prize, it finally hit her that we'd won!"

Swindall decided to collect his winnings in a one-time lump-sum payment of $390,000 instead of receiving annual payments of $25,000 for life.

He says he plans to use the money to buy a new home, add to his children's college funds and save what is left.

"Winning is pretty amazing and life-changing for us. It's going to put us at ease financially for a long time to come," Swindall said.

If interested in participating in other Michigan Lotteries, the next Michigan Powerball drawing is estimated to be worth $345 million.

The Mega Millions drawing is also this week. It has an estimated jackpot of $306 million, and the Fantasy 5 has an estimated jackpot of $115,000.
