Gov. John Bel Edwards announced on Wednesday (September 1) the launch of a new initiative that will provide homeowners in disaster areas with fiber-reinforced sheeting to cover damaged roofs until a more permanent repair can be made.
"The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin Operation Blue Roof for homeowners in areas impacted by Hurricane Ida to cover their damaged roofs until permanent repairs are made," he said.
The parishes eligible for the program include: Ascension, Jefferson, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Terrebonne.
According to WBRZ, only primary residences and permanently occupied rental properties with less than 50% structural damage are eligible for Operation Blue Roof. Vacation properties and "substantially damaged homes" are not eligible.
