Colorado Amusement Park Closes After Child Dies On Ride

A child died on a thrill ride at the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park on Sunday, September 5, reports CBS4.
The park, located in Glenwood Springs, issued a press release that revealed that death occurred on the Haunted Mine Drop ride.
They released the following statement on their Facebook page at 10:26 P.M. on Sunday:
"An incident occurred this evening, September 5, at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park on the Haunted Mine Drop ride that resulted in a fatality. Authorities and emergency personnel have been dispatched and an investigation is in progress. Out of respect and concern for all parties involved, we will not have further comment until all details have been confirmed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all involved. Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park will be closed Monday, September 6 and Tuesday, September 7."
On Monday, September 6, the Garfield County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the child is a 6-year-old girl from Colorado Springs. She was visiting Glenwood Springs with her family.
The park was closed on Monday and Tuesday, September 7 after the tragic incident.
The Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident and the Colorado Department of Labor told CBS4 they will send an inspector to the park on Tuesday to investigate as well.
