An elderly Phoenix couple was vacationing in San Diego when the unthinkable happened. While driving, their car caught on fire and the two were trapped inside. That's when five good samaritans came to the rescue.
The incident happened at around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, reported AZ Family.
Ken Williams, 92, was driving. His wife Joan Williams, 90, was in the passenger seat. The car driven by Williams was hit from behind, which caused the fire. The couple didn't realize, however, until it was fully engulfed in flames.
Andre Leggett was one of the good samaritans who came to help. He said, "We just saw this guy. He was stuck in his seatbelt, so we kind of snatched open the door and unbuckled the seatbelt. My buddy, Barry, then snatched him out of the car."
Barry, one of the rescuers, is still in the hospital with burns on his arm.
Thankfully, neither of the two sustained serious injuries. Williams' son said, "Our dad had some burns to his left side. Um, my mom got out with just abrasions." Both are recovering in UCSD Medical Center.
One of the couple's sons said, "Everyone that saw that video knows that if those people did not pull them out, we wouldn't be having this discussion right now. So I can't thank them enough."
