John Mulaney and Olivia Munn are expecting their first child together.
The stand-up comedian and former Saturday Night Live writer announced the news when he appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
“You’ve had a year!” Seth Meyers exclaimed when Mulaney, 39, sat down for his interview.
Mulaney agreed, “I packed a lot into” the past year. He reviewed checking into rehab in September of 2020, moving out of his home with now ex-wife Anna Marie Tendler the following month, relapsing after hosting Saturday Night Live on Halloween, going back to rehab for another two months and continuing with sober living after that. Mulaney and Tendler were married from 2014 to 2021.
“Then in the spring I went to Los Angeles and met and started to date a wonderful woman named Olivia [Munn, 41],” Mulaney continued, noting that he met the actress for the first time at Meyers’ wedding in 2013. Mulaney credited Munn for dating him right out of recovery, saying: “I got into this relationship that’s been really beautiful…and she’s kind of held my hand through [recovery] — and we’re having a baby together!”
Mulaney admitted he was “nervous” as he delivered the news, but said “I’m gonna be a dad,” and “we’re both really, really happy.”
He and Meyers continued to talk about fatherhood, about Meyers and others staging an intervention for Mulaney, and more throughout the interview.
“I’m always very happy to be your friend and I’m very happy to be in your presence. And this year I was lucky to spent a lot of time with you, and it was a real roller coaster, but I’m very happy you’re on the other side of it,” Meyers said, in closing. “I am so happy for you and Olivia, this is very exciting news. I love you very much and I’m glad you’re doing it.”
Mulaney returned the sentiment and looked forward to his next steps with Munn:
“I love you, Seth. You guys saved me from drugs, and Olivia and this baby helped save me from myself (during) this early journey out of recovery… I’m really grateful to you.”
