A Michigan woman joked about winning $1 million off a scratch-off instant game to her friends and then actually won a million dollars.
According to the Michigan Lottery, a 43-year-old Tuscola County woman bought a winning Ruby Mine instant game scratch-off ticket at the Clark gas station in Marlette while on a weekend trip with her friends.
"My friends and I were going on a weekend getaway and stopped to get gas on the way," the player told the Michigan Lottery. "There was one Ruby Mine ticket left in the roll, so I decided to purchase it."
The woman joked to her friends about winning and a few seconds later, she discovered that she actually won. "When I got back to the car, I joked: 'Alright, if I win $1 million, we are going to do something fun today!' When I scratched the ticket and told my friends I'd really won $1 million; they thought I was kidding. I scanned it on the Lottery app to be sure and could not believe it when the app confirmed I won $1 million!"
The woman chose to receive her winnings in 30 annuity payments of about $33,000 each. She says she plans to pay bills and save the rest.
If interested in participating in other Michigan Lotteries, the next Michigan Powerball drawing is estimated to be worth $388 million.
The Mega Millions drawing is also this week. It has an estimated jackpot of $368 million, and the Fantasy 5 has an estimated jackpot of $142,000.
