Illinoisans are incredibly loyal sports fans, and they’re proving it on their plates.
Thousands of motorists have requested specialty license plates to show off their fandom, representing the Cubs, the Sox, the Blackhawks, the Bulls, and other teams.
Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White broke down the most-represented teams in a press release earlier this month. The release shows that White Sox fans take the lead with nearly 22,000 specialty plates. That’s followed by the Chicago Blackhawks with nearly 20,000 plates, and the Chicago Cubs with nearly 14,000 plates. Others include the Chicago Bears, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Bulls.
There are more than 71,000 Sports Team Series license plates total, and they have raised more than $13 million for Illinois public schools since the program started more than a decade ago.
“Fans have been able to display pride for their team on their vehicles while supporting public education in Illinois,” White said in the release. “I am thrilled to report that this program has generated $13,011,300 million for our public schools throughout Illinois. It is a win, win situation for our students, teachers and sports fans.”
Sports Team Series license plates cost $69 for a random number and varies for vanity and personalized plates, the release states. Illinoisans can order plates at ilsos.gov.
