Johnny Ramone's iconic black and white guitar, which he played for nearly 20 years, is up for auction.
The well-worn 1965 Mosrite Ventures II electric guitar that was Johnny's go-to in the Ramones from 1977 to 1996 has been listed for sale by RR Auction, along with dozens of other pieces of punk rock history.
Johnny used the guitar at an estimated 1,985 shows and on all 15 Ramones albums, both live and in the studio.
After the Ramones broke up, Johnny sold the guitar to longtime friend Daniel Rey. Rey then loaned it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, where it remained behind glass for 25 years.
The guitar comes with a strap — affixed to it by duct tape — as well as Ramones guitar picks and a certificate of authenticity. Johnny himself autographed the back of the guitar, writing "Johnny Ramone, My Main guitar, 1977 - 1996."
Bidding closes on September 25. At the time of this writing there were more than 20 bids on the instrument. The current price to beat was $275,000.
