A Kentucky man is being hailed as a hero after his wrong turn saved the lives of dozen of high schoolers.
Scott County High School football players were heading home after a tough loss to Frederick Douglass in Lexington on Friday, September 24, when their bus caught on fire.
The bus was travel through the I-75 Northern split near the 118-mile marker when the fire started near one of the wheels. The players and coaches inside didn't know that they were in danger, but luckily, a man driving a truck noticed the flames.
"If I didn't make the wrong turn, I wouldn't have been there when it happened," he told LEX 18.
Edwards was going in the wrong direction on the road when he saw the burning bus. He immediately started yelling at the bus driver and those aboard to get their attention.
"Our coach was trying to get the bus driver's attention and said 'hey, someone is trying to get us over' and the truck driver says 'hey your bus is on fire. You need to pull over,'" Jacob Romero, a player on the bus, told the station.

Edwards attempted to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher while everyone on board safely got off the bus.
The bus was burnt to a crisp, but no one was hurt. Both the players and their parents are grateful to Edwards for being the right place at the right time.
"They crowded me like you see at a football game when they win the game," said Edwards. "And they were slapping me on my bald head, giving me daps and hugs and shaking my hand."
