John Mellencamp and Bruce Springsteen have come together on a brand new collaboration, "Wasted Days," which is the first taste of Mellencamp's forthcoming new album.
In "Wasted Days," Mellencamp starts off by singing, "How many summers still remain/ How many days are lost in vain/ Who's counting out these last dramatic years/ How many minutes do we have here?" He then picks back up in the chorus with Springsteen saying, "Wasted days/ Wasted days/ We watch our lives just fade away to/ More wasted days."
The Boss then takes over in the second verse with, "How much sorrow is there left to climb/ How many promises are worth the time/ And who on earth is worth our time/ Is there a heart here that I can call mine?"
"Wasted Days" also comes with an official music video, which was shot in New Jersey earlier this month, and directed and produced by filmmaker and frequent Springsteen collaborator Thom Zimny.
This is the first time that John and Bruce have collaborated together, however, they have performed together before in New York City a few years ago when they sang "Glory Days" and "Dancing in the Dark." Mellencamp had hinted about having worked with Springsteen on his new album earlier this year while speaking to Billboard at Clive Davis' Grammy Museum benefit event. He explained, "Bruce is singing on the new record and is playing guitar."
Mellencamp's upcoming album — set to be released sometime in 2022 — will be his 24th, and follows his 2017 project Sad Clowns & Hillbillies.
